Bond Fees: The bond fee or premium for the bond is usually 10% of the face amount of the bond for State charges and is Usually 15% for Federal Bonds. There is a minimum bond fee of $ 100.00 in the state of Florida and the bond fee is not refundable.

Transfer Fee: If you are in Orlando, Florida and you want to bond a friend or relative out of jail in Miami, Florida, you would be required to pay a transfer fee of not more than $ 100.00 if you obtain services from a bondsman in Orlando. This transfer fee is how the bondsman in Miami would get paid for actually posting the bond at the jail in Miami while the bondsman in Orlando who is who you signed paperwork with is responsible or liable for the bond. Transfer fees vary in other states.

Collateral: Collateral is something that is used to secure the bond, usually a mortgage on real estate property, Cash, vehicles and or titles to vehicles, jewelry, or any other thing of value which can be pledged to the Bonding Company to secure the bond if the defendant does not show up in Court. Any Collateral pledged or posted as security for the bond is returnable when the defendant has appeared for all court dates pertaining to the case and the bond has been discharged by the Clerk of Court. The collateral is returnable to only the person who is listed as the depositor on the collateral receipt.

Indemnitor: An indemnitor is a person who signs documents agreeing to hold the bonding company harmless of any expenses incurred should the defendant fail to appear in court. Some people may refer to an indemnitor as a co-signer.

Defendant: The defendant is the person who has been arrested for a crime and is the person that is being bonded out of jail.

Refunds: If you bonded someone out of jail yesterday on a $ 10,000.00 bond and you paid the bonding company $ 1,000.00 for their services and the person you bonded out got arrested again today for something else, the bonding company has the right to revoke the $ 10,000.00 bond and you are not entitled to a refund of any money. If you posted collateral for the bond you would be entitled to receiving your collateral back but not the bond fee, If the bonding company were to arrest the defendant and revoke the bond and the defendant did not violate any of the conditions of the bond you would be entitled to a refund of the bond fee.

 

Conditions: The Conditions of Bond are conditions or rules that the defendant must abide by while he or she is out on bond, if the defendant violates any condition of his bond, the bonding company has the right to arrest the defendant and surrender him or her back into the custody of the jail and revoke the bond, and you would not be entitle to a refund of the bond fee.
